AI Announcer (00:05)
Hello and welcome folks. We are live at the grand arena of ideas and tonight we've got an absolute heavyweight clash lined up for you. This is Prompt This, the podcast for business leaders who've had enough of the AI hype and are hungry for the real deal. I'm your AI intro voice for the week and today I'm calling it loud and clear, SmackDown number two is about to kick off. And in this corner, stepping onto the pitch,
With the confidence of a seasoned captain, it's Greg, your go-to veteran for scaling sales teams with precision and power. And in the opposite corner, wearing the startup stripes and ready to sprint down the wing, it's Clint, the battle-tested startup warrior. The whistle is moments away, the tension is rising, and the crowd can feel it, because today, these two are squaring.
off in a showdown to see who walks out victorious. And we are just about on the way.
Greg (01:13)
you
All right, Clint, guess what? It's been another 10 guess on this round. So what does that mean? It's SmackDown number two.
Clint (01:30)
Right on, I am the reigning champion. First SmackDown, I took that one. I'm planning to take it again today. And I love how we get to bring back our guests from the last 10 weeks and highlight what they had to say.
Greg (01:43)
Definitely. Yeah. So cases is the first back down you're listening to the way this works is at the end of each episode, we asked the guests a set of five questions and get their answers then. Yep. Same questions. And then, Clint and I draft teams and put their answers up against each other and let chat. GPT decide who had the stronger answer.
Clint (01:55)
Any questions for each guest?
Greg (02:09)
So I have been doing a lot of studying since I lost the last one and I'm ready to go.
Clint (02:16)
Right on. Okay, you've been doing the studying. I haven't needed to just because you know, I'm in the winner's seat, but let's kick off the draft. Let's get it going.
Greg (02:24)
All right, so let's do it. So we have 10 guests and you you won. Yeah, you won last time. Go ahead. can have first pick.
Clint (02:31)
Person for team, yeah.
β thank you very much. Okay. I'm looking across the list of our last 10 guests and I'm going to take Eric Archer Smith. He's a, he's a marketing guy from the same background as me. And he started a company. I think he's a perfect first member of my team.
Greg (02:51)
All right, well, you're gonna take a CEO, I'm gonna take a CEO. I have Brooks Bush, the CEO of Elite.
Clint (02:59)
I'm going to bring together the dream team of the strategy thinkers here. I'm going to take Emily Maxey, who's also a chief marketing officer and a chief revenue officer too.
Greg (03:13)
All right, well, I'm going to take Bruce Daly, an industry analyst turned AI startup founder, analyst co-pilot.
Clint (03:23)
All right, my next pick. Hmm, I got to look here. There's some good names in here. I got my sneaker pick. This is going to be Julie Trellstad. She's an author and an advocate of modern AI publishing.
Greg (03:41)
I'm going with Josh Gould, CEO of the big word power player.
speaker-2 (03:47)
you
Clint (03:47)
Yeah, he was.
Okay. Keeping on the theme of my big brains on the strategy team, I'm going to pick up Ken Roden. He's an AI adoption leader and he's doing his doctoral thesis right now on business strategy with AI.
Greg (04:07)
All right, well, if you're going to pick a doctoral candidate, I'm taking Dr. Shelley Hendricks, executive coach and founder and president of Blue Horizon Solutions. You got a doctorate, I got a doctorate.
Clint (04:19)
There you go. And let's see, my last pick here, I'm going to go with Warren, Warren Cucker. He's a co-founder himself of an AI startup. And yeah, that's a strong team. I've got the team that's going to win, man.
Greg (04:36)
Well, we're not done yet. I've got Martin Schneider, principal analyst at Constellation Research.
Clint (04:49)
That's a team. That's a good pick. I hear you.
Greg (04:52)
I'm feeling really confident right now. So do I just call it now or do we actually need to play? Because I think I won already.
Clint (05:00)
What are you talking about? You're not just gonna come in and sweep it. β Because remember, you are talking to the rating champion here. All right.
Greg (05:09)
Round 1.
What's one AI trend in business you think is wildly overhyped right now?
Clint (05:19)
I love this question. I love all the answers that have been coming in this question, because if there's one thing happening in the AI world, it's a lot of hype. So let's see here. I'm going to put in Warren Cucker, because I really, frankly, I agree with his answer here. Let's listen to it.
Warren Kucker (05:37)
It's already on the tail end of fizzling out, but we saw AI SDR, Sales Development Representatives, come out of the woodwork almost immediately where you're outsourcing your outbounding to outsource folks and it's all AI driven. That it's already fizzling out, no one's using it, didn't work, you blow out your entire TAN in six months and you don't get any opportunities out of it. So in particular, that one's probably almost done.
Greg (06:00)
That's pretty strong, okay, pretty strong statement. Pretty strong statement. But I'm going to put Shelly Hendrix down. I liked it.
speaker-2 (06:11)
you
Clint (06:12)
Let's hear it.
Utilization of video marketing campaigns. Now we need to put the answers through our chat. GPT custom project. You're not going to win here. This is going to be me. look at the answer. I was right. I took round one.
Martin Schneider (06:37)
look at the
Greg (06:44)
This is already going the wrong way for me. think no no are you? All right, well, let's see what happens
Clint (06:48)
You're start claiming rigged already?
Greg (07:01)
Round Two.
Clint (07:03)
Where do you see AI creating the biggest competitive advantage for companies in the next two years?
Greg (07:11)
I got this one. When we're talking about like, you know, companies and what's happening and over a couple of years, you bring in the industry analyst, Martin Schneider.
Clint (07:26)
Let's hear it.
Martin Schneider (07:27)
Well, I think the companies that leverage small, specific language models rather than relying on large, generic language models for both kind of internal and then customer-facing use cases are the ones that are going to succeed because they're going to provide the best answers, they're going to provide the best experiences, they're going to have the most effective outcomes, right?
Clint (07:47)
Okay, good answer. That's a strong answer. Okay, this is where I'm going to bring out one of my strongest players here, Mr. Eric Archer Smith. Let's hear what he has to say about creating the biggest competitive advantage for the next two years. β
Greg (07:50)
That one. Yeah.
Joshua Gould (08:05)
Yeah.
Warren Kucker (08:06)
There's a couple of things here too. think rapidly prototyping and testing things. I think about between product and product marketing, the ability to rapidly test a new thing and get feedback is absolutely incredible and can really accelerate getting product market fit or message market fit.
Clint (08:24)
Yeah, I like that answer. That's a strong answer for me. That is the operator answer.
Greg (08:28)
answer too yeah
all right well let's see all right put it through
speaker-2 (08:34)
you
Clint (08:35)
All right, putting
it in. Let's see what chat GPT has to say.
Greg (08:38)
Come on, come on. What is it, Clint?
Clint (08:43)
And β Martin Schneider won there. That's for you.
Greg (08:48)
β
All right, all right, it's not as rigged as I thought. This is great. Now I'm starting to have a little fun. This is pretty fun. So it's one, one now. If I'm calculating correctly, it's one, one.
Clint (09:04)
You're a master of math.
Greg (09:07)
Let's do this.
Round 3 What's one business task you'd never trust AI to handle? This one was awesome. Everyone gave great answers. I love this question.
Clint (09:28)
Absolutely. Some of the best answers come out there. In fact, let me bring in Jason Rushforth here with his answer. Let's listen to this. My forecast call. You gotta agree with that, right, Greg? You're not gonna have AI do your forecast call.
Greg (09:43)
All right, dude. All right, audience, you got to watch Clint really close because I think this is invalid. You're cheating because Jason Rushforth hasn't even come out in our episode stack yet. You pulled out a guest from a future episode. Illegal. Illegal. Let me ask my co-pilot if that's legal.
speaker-2 (09:48)
you
Clint (10:03)
Who? Me? Who? Me?
I'm little nervous here. had to bring in a ringer. Okay, you're right.
Greg (10:14)
Go again, dude,
Clint (10:17)
Okay, right back to my actual real team. β Let's take Ken Roden from the bench here and let's hear what he has to say.
Ken Roden (10:27)
My taxes. β The idea that AI, I would never give AI the permission to do something that I'm accountable for in the end. I would have to submit something taxes strategy, expense reports.
Greg (10:30)
way.
Clint (10:48)
Yeah, see, I agree with that. I'm not going to have AI do my taxes or strategy.
Greg (10:55)
That's pretty solid. But listen to this one. Brooks Bush.
Clint (11:02)
emailing my board.
Warren Kucker (11:04)
I would never, never.
Clint (11:06)
Never
Greg (11:07)
I'm
trusted to do that. I could do that, but I'm not probably trusted to do that. You've been in the startup world, would you?
Warren Kucker (11:08)
I wish it could go another
Clint (11:12)
Hmm.
Yeah, I hear that point. Yeah, owning the communication with the board. That's what the CEO does.
Greg (11:24)
Yeah. All right. You put it through the put it through chat.
Clint (11:27)
Okay, let
me the two through. Yeah, putting it through. Let's see coming back with
one.
Greg (11:36)
This is fun. I'm having a great time. This is really fun, Clint.
Martin Schneider (11:41)
Ha ha ha ha
Clint (11:42)
It's kind of going back and forth. I'm not sure where this is going.
Greg (11:45)
head on the leaderboard you know I think that's what two for me one for you is all over
Clint (11:51)
Yeah, that's... again, the master of math is on it. Mm-hmm.
Greg (12:00)
Round four.
Clint (12:04)
If you had to implement one AI tool across your entire organization tomorrow, what would it be and why?
Greg (12:13)
you know who nailed this one in my opinion? was Bruce Daly.
Clint (12:20)
Let's hear it. I think it would have to be an analyst pilot because that's an area where you get. Benefits also a way that you can provide yourself a little career insurance. And on top of that all also can get measurable financial results today.
Greg (12:24)
Let's go.
Ken Roden (12:27)
Cantible but it's
Greg (12:41)
Huh.
Clint (12:43)
about
that one. He's kind of playing up his own product there.
Greg (12:46)
Hey, you gotta believe in what you do, you know?
Clint (12:51)
There you go. Fair enough. I like the guy fair enough. I think he was the only guess that actually flat-out said you need to deploy my product
Greg (12:58)
Yeah,
this guy's a winner.
Clint (13:01)
I like it. There you go. Brutal honesty. I'm going to look at my list of players here and yeah, it's time for Emily to come in. Let's listen to what Emily Maxey has to say. Yep, exactly. It would be an AI literacy program, not a tool, but an AI literacy program to
Greg (13:13)
He's done.
AI Announcer (13:21)
bring
everybody up to speed on AI impacts their role.
Clint (13:28)
and the organization at large.
There you go. How's that for a strategic response? An AI literacy program. you go. Teach everybody how to use AI. That's the best tool to roll out. like that.
Greg (13:43)
That thing is on a different level. All right. Put it through the machine.
Clint (13:48)
I'm
going to put it through the machine. see here. Let's see what chat GBT has to say. And, how about that? Here it is. The big win tied up two to two.
Greg (13:59)
dude, you won on that one? No.
Clint (14:01)
That's right. Let's see, Mr. Master of the Math, what is the current standings as we go into the last round here?
Greg (14:10)
Two against two would be a tie.
Clint (14:15)
for the tiebreaker for the win
Greg (14:18)
Alright, this is the big one. This is the big one. Alright.
Round five. What's the biggest misconception leaders still have about using AI in their business? This is where people got really smart. I like this one.
Clint (14:42)
Well, I'm going to bring my intellectual player off the bench here, the one who's thinking about how AI is working in the world of β writing and authorship and such. So let's see what Julie Trelstedt has to say.
Julie Trelstad (14:57)
I just think that AI is a black and white thing. I think that AI is a lot more than we say it is, and they should listen to podcasts like yours to learn more about all the shades of gray that are going on. β In my work, trying to protect authors' rights in the AI age, I get a lot of pushback saying, AI, no, nothing. β It's evil. So I do think there's a lot of black and white thinking around AI and not a lot of β
not as much as we need of sort of this thoughtful incremental thinking.
Clint (15:32)
See? It's a nuanced answer, right?
Greg (15:35)
That is pretty good.
Clint (15:37)
I got everybody's looking for AI to be just a simple straightforward answer and saying it's not it's not so I
Greg (15:44)
You're
gonna while you have it. I'm about to put my pick down here. I'm going with Josh Gould. You probably don't remember what he said to get ready.
Clint (15:51)
Mmm. β
Yeah, I'm kind of remembering this one. Yeah.
Greg (15:58)
Get ready.
Clint (16:01)
Let's listen to it.
Joshua Gould (16:02)
I think the biggest misconception really boils down to the fact that they're trying to replace humans with it. I don't see AI as only a tool to replace humans. Sometimes it can be, but it's an enhancement tool. It's an efficiency tool. You know, let's first get human in the loop.
or AI in the loop with humans. Then if you think you can take the next step. if your goal is just to like close down your call center and run it only with AI, you probably, it's like trying to fly before you can even walk. So, you know, first figure out how to walk, then figure out how to run. And then after that, we'll figure out how to fly.
Greg (16:42)
Mm-hmm.
Clint (16:44)
Yeah, yeah That's a strong strong final round there for you. All right, has to say? Julie versus Josh
Greg (16:54)
Let's
peel the band-aid off, put it in.
Clint (16:57)
And the answer is... Josh Gould.
Greg (17:02)
Yeah!
Clint (17:04)
Mistake is trying to replace humans instead of augmenting them and that delivers the win to you
Greg (17:11)
Put the math together. think this is Greg Rosenthal beats Clint Oram. β Make sure the transcript is correct when that comes out. That needs to be in print. We're very competitive.
Clint (17:24)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you won. You did win. That was a clean win there at the end. No doubt about it.
Greg (17:30)
Remember getting on β this platform and introducing yourself as the winner of SmackDown number one, pretty much for 13 weeks in a row and I had to listen to that.
Clint (17:43)
Yeah, absolutely,
I was bragging about that. I have been bragging about that.
Greg (17:46)
I got a new intro going for it.
Clint (17:50)
The world champion of the rapid fire smackdown, Greg Rosenthal!
Greg (17:57)
You can't get out from under this for another 10 interviews. β All right.
Clint (18:03)
That's
fun, man. I had a good time with that. It's good going back and listening to what, β well, just listening to the voices of our guests. We've got a great group of guests. The people that are coming on the show are just real down to earth, honest operators, analysts who are telling you how it's really actually working out there and to hear them come up with their key insights here. I enjoyed that.
Greg (18:26)
Yeah, really smart people this time. And once again, we got to thank the guests for, you know, keeping us alive.
Clint (18:33)
smart people this time? Are you saying that last time?
Greg (18:37)
I meant another set of smart people. this time. think you're so sore from the loss you can't hear anymore.
Clint (18:40)
gotcha.
Greg (18:50)
That's it. Well, thanks for all the support everyone out there. We're going to come in. are going to keep doing our thing and you know, we continue to get smarter in the world of AI and I hope you guys are too.
Clint (19:02)
And that's another episode of Prompt This.
AI Announcer (19:11)
